From the desk of:
Keith A. Langley, Supervisor
Town of East Greenbush
We have received a number of calls and emails from residents expressing their appreciation for the cleaning of Hampton Manor Lake. The Town Board and I would like to thank everyone for expressing their thoughts and for taking the time to reach out to us. As many of you probably noticed the first week in October, Aquatic Invasive Management started their task of hand harvesting the milfoil and other weeds from the lake. They will be back to work on the lake at the beginning of November. The first week’s results were impressive; we’re looking forward to see what the next round has to offer!
A few people happened to mention how it was strange that there were men wading in the lake for this project. This company believes that hand harvesting of the milfoil and weeds in the lake is a much more effective way of removing and preventing the growth that we have seen the past few years. Previously, we attempted to manage the milfoil by cutting it, which is similar to mowing your lawn - meaning it will eventually grow back. The process of hand harvesting should produce successful results, and with regular annual maintenance the cost to the Town will decrease significantly.
Town of East Greenbush Police Officer Mark Mann was recently deployed to Afghanistan were he is currently on his fourth tour of duty. This year, like in previous tours, the East Greenbush Central School District is collecting items to send over to Officer Mann. The schedule for the East Greenbush Highway Department leaf bag and bundle pick up has been posted on the website. Clean-up will begin on Monday, October 29th and continue for the following four Mondays in November. Please call Dave VanWormer at the East Greenbush Highway Department, 477-6103, with any questions.
The Town is continuing their efforts to work with our consultant, The Chazen Companies, on the sewer facility and the necessary improvements to meet the DEC Consent Order. We expect the final report to be submitted to the Town in early November. Once evaluated, we will schedule a public meting to review the paths and alternatives, which will include detailed cost comparisons of the options to upgrade our own Facility, and/or make connections with the Rensselaer County Sewer District.
With Halloween approaching we would like to remind that the Trick or Treat Toddler Halloween Party will be on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 in Town Hall from 10 am – 12 noon. Bring in your toddlers all dressed up to come trick or treating at Town Hall! We hope that everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween!
We wish everyone well and as always, my door is always open. |
